From the moment we saw it as the Koeru Concept in Frankfurt, we knew that the second-gen Mazda CX-9 would be a different, more luxurious animal than the current one. We guessed that because "koeru" means "exceed" or "go beyond" in Japanese, and the 2016 CX-9 definitely did that for both our expectations and the car's benchmark.
The exterior of Mazda's seven-seat crossover is undoubtedly it's most premium application of the Kodo design language yet. But the realm of exterior design isn't the only place where the CUV goes beyond. At its most opulent, the CX-9 boasts a minimalist interior with upscale materials such as rosewood, Nappa leather, and aluminum accents.
