In 1967, Mazda began challenging convention with the introduction of the 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S in Japan. This vehicle was the world's first production twin-rotor, rotary-engine car, heralding a dramatic change in the way the company was viewed around the world and signaling that Mazda was growing past its history as a manufacturer of small passenger cars and work trucks.

A total of 1,176 Cosmo Sports were built, but the vehicle's innovative legacy is still influential. Mazda is determined to establish an emotional connection with its customers by offering an amalgamation of performance and driving pleasure that is best conveyed through the company's belief in hashiru yorokobi: exhilaration, joy and well-being from driving.

From that first Wankel rotary engine to today's SKYACTIV technology, Mazda has established a pattern of challenging the status quo and developing innovations in technology, engineering and design.
